EXPERIMENTAL FACILITATION:

1) ACQUISITION OF BIOLOGIC & PETRO-VOLAIC EMANATIONS: THE SONIFICATION OF NATURE INTELLIGENCE

Experimental objectives include the acquisition and sonification of plant and mineral signals deemed ‘nature intelligence’ which appear to have far different characteristics than noise associated with biological and mechanical processes. The “intelligent” signals often spontaneously become interactive with people and music. When processed with software packages like Abelton Live, these signals become extremely vivid and complex sonically.

We have pursued the study of the phenomena for some years, and present some of the results below. Only recently has the interaction and gradual comprehension of ‘Nature Intelligence” become a major part of our research protocols. For more information on Nature Intelligence, visit Perelandra, Ltd.

A. IBVA: IBVA is a brain wave analysis hardware/software tool designed by our friend Masahiro Kahata. The frequencies and voltage measured by IBVA just happen to be in the same range of the voltages exhibited on the surface of certain plants and rocks. With two IBVA units measuring signals, we can mount displays comparing two sources, in real-time moving waterfall graphs. IBVA can simultaneously translate these voltages into midi, allowing two plants or rocks to be sonically processed as instruments or effects as a duet, while tracking their correspondences on a graph.

B. WHEATSTONE BRIDGE: This bridge box, designed by Gordon Salisbury puts a small milli-voltage current through two electrodes attached to the leaf of a plant. After balancing, the meter (or graph) displays signals originating from within the plant. In turn, these voltages are amplified and turned into pitch shifts. Using two bridges allows plant responses to be compared side by side, what they react to, how frequently, and how individually. For more information on plant communications, see Cleve Backster and his book, PRIMARY PERCEPTION.

C. RATE OF CHANGE CONVERTER : The RCC, designed by Gordon Salisbury, samples milli-voltages on the surface of a plant or rock, and also translate them into a pitch-shift. It is a broad measure of all electrical activity in the immediate area of the electrodes, including static. Nevertheless, interesting signals from plants and our bio-sensors have been detected and recorded, including music play-along. Both the Bridge and the RCC can be employed with the IBVA for multi-source combinations. Both can also be graphed for signal comparison.

2) ULTRASONIC TRANSDUCTION: The Bat Boxes, designed by Gordon Salisbury, measure ultrasonic frequencies, roughly 20,000hz to 100,000hz. These include bat radar and a whole range of interesting sonic phenomena above the range of human hearing. These signals can be mixed and matched to other sonic sources.

B. A SONIC PAINTING, a Duncan Laurie video, demonstrates the scratch sound, detected ultrasonically, of a finger and a thumb moving against one another in the blurred reflective surface of an old metal box. In the background fog horns and the humming of The Purr Generator are also heard.

C. SOUNDS OF UNSEEN WORLDS by Steve Nalepa and Duncan Laurie is a commercially available M-Audio Loop Library that incorporates many ultrasonic sounds.

3) PSYCHO ACOUSTICAL STIMULATION: From about 1987 on we have been experimenting with the picture making facility of the mind associated with sound and music, called eidetic imagery. Shaping the eidetic image is an ancient art form associated with storytelling and music of all kinds. We became particularly interested in the capacity of sound to shape an image of emptiness in the mind. Atmospheric sounds like short wave background noise and even modulated white noise can precipitate an experience of altered consciousness when ones attention is enveloped by that experience. To investigate these states we employed a Bradford Genesis Device allowing the listener to be completely sonically surrounded three dimensionally by speakers and transducers, creating a ‘tuned cavity’. Through extensive modification, working with both Bradford and other inventors, we were able to continually evolve the device through many phases and applications.

4) ACQUISITION OF AMBIENT SONIC ARTIFACTS: Throughout our exploration of subtle energy technology we have experienced the fact that Nature has the ability to produce some wild sonic effects. We have creatively explored three primary effects:
A) SHORT WAVE: Mixing short wave sounds and tones. {pics of short wave sets, revised SHORT WAVE SOUNDS CD, HALLOWEEN Tracs}
B) PIZEO CHIPS: Creating sonic effects by creatively interpreting pizeo-electric chips coupled with computer hardware and software {New pizeo tracs plus Boreta/Last trac & pics}
C) SOUL BEACON: By designing custom equipment that (theoretically) attracts and enables disincarnate entities to sonically express themselves. The concept for the Soul Beacon was provided by John Norseen, based upon his work experience in naval under seas communications. The Beacon was designed and built by Gordon Salisbury in Dragonline Studios in 2007. {Pics, rap.}

5) RADIONIC TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS: Radionics is explored through examining its history. The world wide usage of Radionics in curative, agricultural, ecological and industrial applications has set the stage for using Radionics in the creative process.

6) SEMIOTICS, SUBTLE ENERGY & ART: Intelligence consultant John Norseen, a specialist in semiotics, bio-fusion and brain mapping shares his insights into the use of subtle energy in warfare with artist Duncan Laurie. Together they cover a wide range of topics in the field of Psychotronics, Radionics, Semiotics and Art.

#5) DESIGN, ART & EDUCATION: This developing section endeavors to connect Laurie’s work as a visual artist to the themes of Subtle Energy, Nature Intelligence and Education.

A) EIDETIC SUPERIMPOSITION OF SUBLIMINAL TOPOGRAPHIES: In 1979 a vision of a whirlwind of fire prompted Laurie to create a series of glass artworks. The vision of the burning whirlwind, or tourbillion, became a metaphor for a much larger series of life events documented in journals for the next 20 years.

B) DESIGN UTILIZATION OF SURFACE TEXTURES: AN ANALOGUE TO SONIC TEXTURE IN GLASS: From 1972 to 2004 Laurie produced a large number of artworks and commissions, specializing in the surface texturing of flat glass. Textured glass is for the most part a visual analogue to sonic noise. Within a field of relative uniformity of surface texture, artifacts intrude to provide definition or alter a pattern. Like ambient sonic structures, these textures de-emphasize the individual in favor of creating an autonomous field effect.
